Blue Light Protection Glasses
Blue Light Glasses are glasses with lenses or coatings designed to filter the harmful blue wavelengths emitted by digital screens like computers, tablets and phones. This helps reduce the strain on your eyes and may help with symptoms such as headaches, eye irritation and dryness. Blue light is also believed to interfere with the natural sleep-wake cycle, disrupt melatonin production and lead to macular degeneration.1

While there are many claims about the benefits of these glasses, the evidence is inconsistent and limited. The majority of studies use small sample sizes and the effects are often difficult to compare. The most recent study, published in 2021, compared blue-light filtering lenses to placebos and found that wearing them for a 2-hour computer task caused less eye fatigue, itching, and pain than the placebo.2
Other ways to relieve digital eye strain include using artificial tears to prevent dry eyes, and following the 20-20-20 rule to give your eyes a break every 20 minutes by looking at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. It is also important to avoid screen time before bed, as the blue light can disrupt melatonin production and delay sleep onset.
If you’re thinking about getting blue-light protection glasses, we recommend choosing a pair with anti-glare technology to reduce distracting reflections on the screen. This will make them more comfortable to wear, as they won’t cast distracting reflections on your forehead or cheeks. Our blue-light lenses have a premium anti-glare coating and are available as prescription, non-prescription and reading glasses.
